Augmented reality and virtual reality are now commonly found in the construction, finance, healthcare, and retail industries to improve efficiency, production, and profit. AR and VR are also implemented into video games to enhance play. The technologies might also be combined for a number of applications.

Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality

Augmented reality and virtual reality similarly enable users to immerse themselves in world locations or situations while interacting with their surroundings. However, the two technologies accomplish the goal in different ways. AR allows users to see their natural surroundings and they are able to interact with virtual objects and people implanted in the visual range.

On the other hand, VR immerses users in a fabricated world where they may also interact with objects or people. The technologies are commonly used as gaming platforms. However, they also have newer implications.

Robotics

Robots have proven to be useful in a wide variety of industries. The machines are efficient and capable of handling tasks beyond human ability. They also commonly replace people to perform tasks that are deemed too hazardous. Technicians have the ability to remotely operate robots using AR and VR.

Career Testing

AR and VR technologies can also be used to provide students the chance to test out possible future careers. Trade jobs are increasing while the number of qualified trade workers is declining. Students are choosing to pursue a degree in college. Many are dropping out before obtaining the degree, racking up a lot of debt in doing so.

Providing high school students the opportunity to test out a trade job may persuade them to try a trade school, giving them the opportunity for a more prosperous future.

Employee Training

New employees might be required to step into a virtual setting to interact with objects in real-world environments. The training platform might involve simulations designed to prevent on-the-job injuries or ensure consumer safety. The technologies may also be used to train personnel on how to conduct themselves during business meetings.

Other options include testing workplace ethics by enabling an employee to experience various situations in which they must make a decision. AR/VR tutorials might be used to improve employee performance. An individual walks through an environment and performs designated tasks. Their performance in the simulation allows them to understand strengths and weaknesses and the knowledge gained helps improve overall performance.

Emergency Readiness

In order to train emergency personnel, the technology might be used for various simulated disasters. The training program not only provides an educational experience but also enables supervisors to witness how employees might problem solve and deal with stress while in the middle of an emergency. Components of the exercise may include everything from choosing the right equipment and supplies and traveling to designated locations to fighting fires or treating injured victims.
